Cleaning Blood Stains on Your Carpet

One of the most difficult kinds of stains to have on your carpet is blood stains. Not only will it leave a visible red mark on your carpet fabric but it also is not easy to get out. Having that red blood stain, especially on white or light-colored carpets, can be a very frustrating experience which I know everyone dreads. We can’t predict accidents however so it’s not uncommon for you to get cut or wounded and get blood all over your beautiful carpet.

Dealing with this kind of stain is tough but with the proper technique you can get through it and get your carpet clean and stain-free. Here are some steps that you can follow to help in cleaning blood stains off of your carpet.

1. Absorb the Blood – For the first step, get an absorbent cloth or paper towels and blot the stain with it. This will help absorb the blood preventing it from spreading or setting on the carpet fibers. Be careful not to spread it though as you can end up making the stain worse.
2. Apply Detergent on the Stain – Get some household non-bleach detergent and place a small amount on the stain. Then, get a toothbrush and gently scrub the stain with it to work the detergent into the carpet.
3. Make an Ammonia-Water Cleaning Solution – If the previous step doesn’t get the blood stain out of the carpet, mix a teaspoon of ammonia with a cup of warm water and apply this onto the stain. Let the solution set for a few minutes to help break up the blood stain making it easier to remove before going on to the next step.
4. Blot the Stain Using a Clean Cloth – Get a piece of clean white cloth and start blotting the stain. You’ll see the blood stain will become lighter as it slowly transfer onto the surface of the cloth. Repeat this until you get rid of the stain completely.
5. Rinse the Area – Get a spray bottle filled with water and rinse the area where the stain used to be. This prevents any cleaning solution residue from being left behind. Finish it off by drying the area using clean towels.
You don’t have to worry about dealing with tough blood stains on your carpet any longer. It may take you some time but as soon as you get the hang of it you’ll be sure to effectively remove any blood stain and get your carpet looking like new once more.
